 Elm Millennium Edition 2.4 PL124b (25) (Elm 2.4ME+ patch)
Section: Unix

Added: Fri, Mar 29th 2002 16:13 UTC (6 years, 4 months ago) Updated: Mon, Jul 21st 2008 23:23 UTC (4 days ago)

Screenshot About:
Elm Millennium Edition is an interactive mail system based on Elm 2.4. It contains enhanced MIME and character set support. A subset of UTF-8 (Unicode) is handled. It can read mail from a local mbox and POP and IMAP folders and can pass mail to the PGP or GPG programs. It can also view digests as a mailbox and reassemble fragmented (message/partial) messages. It includes modules for TLS/SSL, iconv, and SMTP.

Release focus: Minor bugfixes

Changes:
This patch fixes errors in cat_strings(), ascii_need_quote(), string_need_quote(), delete_alias_files(), and hdr_comment(). Recursive mail commands via "m)ail -> view) folder" are prevented. OpenDocument formats were added to the mime.types file.

Changed spelling of "Millenium" to "Millennium".

In my English to Finnish dictionary there is a word
"millenium". And there is no word "millennium" in
the dictionary. But apparently my dictionary is wrong.

[»] Branch names
by Kari Hurtta - May 18th 2004 10:28:10

So freshmeat staff is accepted branch "Elm ME+ 2.5", but do not accept renaming branch "Default" to "Elm 2.4ME+".

Possible readers will be diffuculties understand what version is "PL115 (25)" on Default branch. Is it "Elm ME+ 2.5 PL115 (25)" or is it "Elm 2.4ME+ PL115 (25)" ? That version number "PL115 (25)" is edited by freshmeat staff. Actually what was submitted was "Elm 2.4ME+ PL115 (25)".

If freshmeat staff wants version numbers by catenating of project name and submited version strings, freshmeat's software do not able to do that for Elm 2.4ME+ PLxx (25) versions.

These branch names are not mean for "project branch version". That is not possible when project name is "Elm ME+".

[»] ELM 2.4ME+ ftp site
by Kari Hurtta - Jan 23rd 2004 03:41:40

Seems that anonymous ftp (and ftp.ozone.fmi.fi) will be removed.

Then ftp://ftp.ozone.fmi.fi/KEH/ is not available.

WWW page http://www.ozone.fmi.fi/KEH/ probably remain available.

    Not yet removed...

Seems that machine which serves www.ozone.fmi.fi
will be also removed (on two months?)

ozone.fmi.fi (ftp.ozone.fmi.fi) disks seems to have dead.

    Use
    ftp.elmme-mailer.org: directory elmme-mailer.org/src/elm-2.4ME+/

    instead of

    (ftp.)ozone.fmi.fi: directory KEH/

    for Elm 2.4ME+.

    There is also

    ftp.elmme-mailer.org: directory elmme-mailer.org/src/elm-ME+2.5/

    for ME+ 2.5.

    ozone2.fmi.fi (http://www.ozone.fmi.fi/KEH/) is powered off.

    Use http://www.elmme-mailer.org/ instead.

Now http://personal.inet.fi/atk/elmme/ should include latest version.

Experimental RPM spec file exists on http://www.ozone.fmi.fi/KEH/rpm/ directory.

I really do not know rpm, so please do not blame me, if I wipe your hardisk...

File elm-2.4ME+101.tar.gz was bogus.
Hopefully it is now fixed.

[»] License
by Kari Hurtta - Dec 16th 2002 23:25:10

License is actually same than on project elm. It says that license is "OSI Approved", but license is not actually on OSI list. I do not know what choice exactly describes license on fresmeat classification.

This is so much better than 2.5.6. A modernized version of our favorite MUA. Beatiful!

Well, I have been using elm at least since (I looked from my old mail folders, and found mail dated Mon, 7 Nov 1994 17:21:38 +0200 (EET) that was send with ELM 2.4 PL23).

And after that, I've been using elm :) ... And I've been verry verry happy with it. So PLEASE, keep it up ;) ... I could even try help you if there is something I could do.
