About:
VariCAD is a 3D/2D CAD system for mechanical
engineering. In addition to standard tools for 3D
modeling and 2D drafting, the CAD system provides
tools for sheet metal unbending and crash tests,
libraries of standard mechanical parts (ANSI, DIN)
and symbols, mechanical part calculations, and
tools for working with bills of materials (BOMs)
and title blocks. VariCAD supports STEP, STL,
IGES, DWG, and DXF file formats.

The best CAD soft for Linux
by Marcin - Oct 29th 2007 23:39:53
Hi, I just want to tell people reading info about VariCAD that this is most
comprehensive and easy to work with CAD software at this price level.
Moreover, it's the best available for Linux.
I spent weekend over demo version and I'm definitely buying it with
upgrade option.
Best regards,
Marcin

Is legal?
by Kementeus Xtian - Jan 27th 2003 12:17:37
VariCAD uses OpenGL and MesaGL with other kind of GPL libraries, is it
legal just to obtain a demo binary version and don not to offer a CVS or
SRC version?...

Everything is legal!
VariCAD is linked dynamicaly. Therefore it can use the libraries licensed
under LGPL (most of the libraries used by VariCAD).
VariCAD does not use any libraries licensed under GPL.
The core Mesa library has its own license, which grants permission for
free, without any restrictions.
For a commercial library QT there is, of course, the valid license from
Trolltech.
