[»] I am wondering how to change my password
by Saveria Lowther - Mar 14th 2008 09:38:18

I was wondering if I can change my password to access my account, or if I have to go through my system administrator (I'm not quite sure if who that is or if we have one). I looked through all the options and couldn't find a way.

Thank you for your time and help. It is so appreciated.
Truly,
Saveria

I found the problem (not open web mail) by calling my e-mail host, brasch consulting: there was no room in my box, as my former employees mail boxes which had filled up with spam over the last several years choked the box. By deleting these names there is now plenty of room.

[»] Sending Message Twice
by missy7777 - Sep 14th 2007 09:33:40

Every time I send an message from Open Webmail, it sends it TWICE. It is a duplicate message sent about 2 minutes apart from each other. It is very bothersome! What's the deal?

[»] ndbm store returned -1, errno 69, key ""
by John - Jul 27th 2007 05:29:22

I just started getting this error after many years of use. It is running OpenBSD 4.1 i386, Perl 5.8.8. With Speedy CGI 2.22.

I can reproduce the error using the tool. See here:

./openwebmail-tool.pl -i john
db /home/john/.openwebmail/db/john verify & updated ok
db /home/john/.openwebmail/db/saved-messages verify & updated ok
ndbm store returned -1, errno 69, key "" at shares/maildb.pl line 518.

I can still use POP3/IMAP to access the mail folders just fine using Thunderbird Client.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I found my problem, I tweak the php.ini file and set higher MAX values for timeouts and memory usage. Seem's to have fixed it.

Sorry about the repeat post below.

I keep getting "Out of memory!, referer: http://192.168.1.121/cgi-bin/openwebmail/openwebmail.pl" in my apache error log. I've tried running it under Apache 1.X and Apache 2.X. I've tried using the perl builtin with Solaris and the perl from sunfreeware.com. I've re-installed openwebmail and it still occurs. How do I debug this!?!?! HELP?!?!?!?!?!?!

[»] Install Problem/Export-Import Question
by cpfogarty - Nov 24th 2006 19:52:31

Hi All,

I have been experiencing intermittent issues with day 30 out
of date range with several different users. A couple weeks
ago I decided it must be an issue, not just a user error. I
downloaded a newer version of OWM I think I was running
2.10 from 2003. I installed or updated the prerequisites and
fixed some admin errors as I went. I am now experiencing:

Can't load '/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/sun4-solaris/
auto/Text/Iconv/Iconv.so' for module Text::Iconv: ld.so.1: /
usr/local/bin/suidOWMperl: fatal: libgcc_s.so.1: open failed:
No such file or directory at /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/sun4-
solaris/DynaLoader.pm line 230.
at /www01/bmfenterprises/openwebmail/cgi-bin/
openwebmail/shares/iconv.pl line 9
Compilation failed in require at /www01/bmfenterprises/
openwebmail/cgi-bin/openwebmail/shares/iconv.pl line 9.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /www01/
bmfenterprises/openwebmail/cgi-bin/openwebmail/shares/
iconv.pl line 9.

Now non of my clients can get there mail via OWM and I
have been hurriedly switching as many as I can to Outlook
Express or the like. I would like to resolve this issue and get
everyone back to OWM. However, in the mean time, I have
been asked about exporting the saved-mail and sent-mail
directories from OWM to Outlook. The backup procedures
suggest downloading a zipped copy of the files but this
creates one large file with many emails. Is there an easy
way to get these exported from the Unix side, as I can’t log
into these OWM accounts, and imported to the Outlook side?

Thank you in advance for any help!!!

Corey

    Hi all,

I just faced the same problem. To solve it proceed the following way:
You just need to provide the path to your Makefile.PL. If you use the
libiconv package from www.sunfreeware.com it will be:

    perl Makefile.PL LIBS='-L/usr/local/lib/' INC='-I/usr/local/include'

    Next edit the produced makefile:

Change: CC = cc to CC = gcc
Change: LD = cc to LD = gcc
    Change: OPTIMIZE = -x03 -x depends to OPTIMIZE = -O3 -mcpu=ultrasparc

The latter is only valid for Sparc plattform else change to -O3 (it is not a zero!)

    make
    make test
    make install

    will do the job.

[»] OWM Issues
by hieb - Oct 4th 2006 18:35:00

My host oneononeinternet.com utilizes OWM as their web based mail application and they recently upgraded to a new version. This has been entirely frustrating...Forgive me if I dont know all the details.

I am experiencing two problems:

1) When moving messages to folders out of the inbox messages I want to keep in the inbox disappear to who knows where. If I logout/in the messages are returned to the inbox. This has happened to me on multiple machines so I know that isnt local. It's like a guessing game as to where they go.

2) every so often after composing and sending a message I get an error saying it couldnt be sent and has been moved to my "drafts" folder. I'll copy the error next time it occurs and paste it here.

I miss the old OWM as it never gave me issues.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

[»] Open Webmail end user question
by David - Sep 15th 2006 07:58:11

Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place (as it seems) - I couldn't find an answer in the 'Open Webmail Help'...

End users at our school (using Safari) get an error upon login (approx): 'a cookie couldn't be set... or your system clock is wrong'. Safari is set to accept cookies from sites navigated to, and the clock is okay. We don't get this problem from Firefox.

I'm the net admin, and most of our users access their mail via our mail host's web interface using Safari.

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

It is happening with me too. I've tried to install Openwebmail 2.51 (and later 2.52) on Slackware 10.0, but it still looping back to Login page after show the Copyright screen...
I've alredy upgraded all packets of my server to the version that Openwebmail requested.
I tried to install Openwebmail through Webmin module, but the same problem occurs.
No erros are showed on the log files... (neither apache's log).

I don' t know what to do to resolve this...
Anybody can give us a clue ?

[»] Open Webmail HTML Composer?
by Gil - Sep 21st 2005 06:08:15

Hi ALL!!!
I am trying to find out if you can compose e-mail messages in HTML from the Open Webmail. I was able to find one thing related to it that said:

Q: I can not choose to compose HTML messages?
A: The HTML editor requires
1. IE5.5+ on windows platform, or
2. Mozilla 1.3b+ on all platforms

However...I could not find out how to install the editor, where to find it, etc.
Can someone please help me to know if this is possible...and if so, how? I need it for business purposes. The text e-mails simply aren't looking professional enough.
Thank you so much!
~Gil

Thanks.

Working thru the demo, I had no problems - everything worked flawlessly (kudo #2)...

Everything is easy to use, titled, runs quickly (kudo #3)...

It ties in with spamassassin, clamav, etc... (kudo #4)...

It imports that stuff everyone's collected in Outlook (kudo #5)

I'm installing it next week on a new email server that I'm building... Once it's up and running and I get my bill paid, I'm making a nice donation to this project... Thanks for the hard work folks...

[»] Has anyone encountered HOTghost ?
by Prakash - Aug 1st 2004 11:48:22

I am using openwebmail at my site www.demicoma.com

I had this peculiar problem with the mail system. The problem started as follows. I noticed a mail from HOTghost with subject 'don't worry, be happy' with an attachment. I promptly trashed the mail. When I tried to clear the trashbox, the mail refused to clear from there. I ignored this occurrence.

A few weeks later, my mailbox bulged to 58MB (normal size 2-3 MB with saved mails in 4-5 folders). I had to delete a large file from my file manager menu just to be able to access the mailbox. Upon access, the memorey use mysteriously was back to usual size. I didnt do anything further.

When the memory flooding happened again, I informed website hosts. They backed up
the inbox (58MB). The HOTghost mail still remained in TRASHBOX. I asked them to delete it. They could do it after a couple of tries.

As it is, the inbox is cleared. I notice that there is a mail there with subject n/a. I sent a test mail - it went to trashbox. I have doubts that there is some email virus or something that is affecting the mailbox. This problem is not evident in any other mailbox on the same server of the same site.

I can receive email from pop3 account also with tiny attachments BUT if attachments get over like 100KB then I cannot receive anything. it even blocks my other emails as well. When I try to force the receive by clicking on the pop account in the pop setup, i get "Internal Server Error". When I look at the apache error log, it says "Premature ending..." I fixed the issue above... The problem was ClamAV. In Linux Fedora Core 5, there's a problem with ClamAV because the rpm package comes without daemon (clamd). There's clamd manual but no daemon. The fix is to go to the openwebmail.conf and disable virus check (set to no). When the patch to fix this will come up, then you can reenable the virus scan. Luke

Hi,

I need to install the openwebmail. However, I find some posting related to the quota problem.

Whenever a user reaches their quota, openwebmail
freezes on logging into their mail account.

The only way to clear the problem is to increase the users quota.

Is there a way around this? or has it been solved in the latest version (2.3)?

Thanks

Among many other job capacities, I proudly call myself a Linux administrator. One of the most important comapnies for whom I work is an advertising firm; the employees are intelligent and well-intentioned but terribly computer illiterate :-) Common story I'd imagine.

I have used OpenWebMail with extraordinary success within this organization (employing ~60 people). The interface is extremely intuitive. For power users, the options to customize, filter, etc are there aplenty. This, taken with the numerous plugins, easy upgrading, and fact that it's written in Perl :-) make this project a win-win.

I highly recommend it. On my "tester" box I've used just about every webmail solution, including the venerable SquirrelMail. Without a shade of doubt, OpenWebMail takes First Prize.

by Patrick Chauncey - Jan 5th 2002 14:52:00

Awesome. Very well done. Includes:

PAM or UNIX interfaces to password system (one's bound to work for you).
Very easy to use webmail interface, which when configured well can be quite powerful.
Works directly with spool files, so all changes are sync'd if you use IMAP or another client. It's not just an web frontend for an IMAP client or such.

This is one to keep an eye on, there are still a few /very/ minor bugs (will post!), and comes without an installer, but shouldn't be a problem for anyone with who can install Apache.

Great job.

Following the instructions was pretty straightfoward. Easy is as easy does. Thanks alot. I had to change the location of Apache's root directory in the ../cgi-bin/openwebmail/ *.pl scripts to point to the correct path. I had problems installing ispell on RedHat 7.2. Easy solution.
